Back to Basics

So I decided enough was enough with these highlights. I told you here, here, and here about the trouble I was having with them. I was going through hell and for what? SO...I decided to go back to basics...good ole' medium brown.

The weather is still not cooperating and although it's summer and shorts seem appropriate I had to pair them with a longer sleeve top. I love the open back detail on this one, although it requires one to go braless and in cooler weather, well....I should've thought that through a little better!

I apologize my posts have been late this week but hey, better late than never!

Well I had a busy and fun weekend but it definitely wiped me out. As you probably figured out due to the lack of post yesterday I was just so exhausted and trying to catch up.
But I am back in full swing to work and well, everything else that needs my attention. The good news is it's already Wednesday and the week is half over!

Red White and Blue

I am so excited for the holiday weekend. My bf is coming to town and we have a weekend full of summer fun ahead!

Due to the nature of the holiday I want to take a moment and thank our military for giving us the opportunity to celebrate the birth of our country. Without them we would have nothing to celebrate. There are so many families that will be without their loved ones because they are overseas and though my bf is in the Army, I am lucky enough to be able to spend it with him. My thoughts are with those people this weekend.

I hope you all have fun whatever you do!

June Gloom

June Gloom is something that occurs in Southern California where it is pretty much cloudy for a month. It is a real thing...it's even on Wikipedia here.
It might not seem like a big deal, but when you are used to seeing the sun all the time, it get's annoying. You can even see how gray it is in these pictures. :(

I tried to put on a dress to lift up my mood. Now that it's officially July I am really hoping the sun comes out for the weekend festivities!

There is a reason that Nude is on trend right now and it goes back to my summer philosophy: look cute, but don't try too hard.
Summer nights can be hot and sticky and black just feels too heavy. A neutral dress feels light and airy, easy to throw on and will highlight the tan you got at the beach.

The other day I was at Kasai, that salon I told you about here, when the stylist pointed out that my hair was pretty damaged from the highlights I got a few months back. This sadly is NOT news to me. I have been battling with the effects of the bleach since the very first wash which I also mentioned here and here .

I have breakage in the front of my hair which is apparently the most delicate and as a result I have been battling flyaways. You can kind of see it in this picture...and it really drives me crazy!

The stylist told me about this leave in conditioner which she said will help....
She was definitely not kidding. This stuff not only is great as a conditioner, but if you use it to tame flyaways instead of hairspray you don't get that crunchy effect.

I also got the Serum that I told you about here and I am loving that stuff too.

I got this stuff at the salon, but Phyto is available at Sephora.

I have been looking forward to it being Friday all week and now that's it's finally here I have so much to do! I've had a friend staying with me for the whole month of June and she finally left yesterday. While I love having company and love seeing my friends, it does feel nice to get my house back :) Of course now I have to start preparing for my BF to come next weekend for the fourth of July :):) This is where the so much to do comes in.

Went out and about on the town with this outfit. By the beach we get June Gloom and the weather has been pretty mild so jeans made perfect sense. I am hoping it warms up by next weekend! Fourth of July festivities are my favorite!!

I Can't Stop Listening To....

I am absolutely nuts about Christina Aguilera's new album Bionic. It is a girl anthem record from start to finish! I have had it on repeat on my ipod when working out, in my car when driving and in my house when I'm putting on make up. It is feel good and fun and I highly recommend it!

Christina has been like Madonna over the years trying on different personas and taking fashion risks. Some have been good some not so much, but I definitely see her as someone who has embraced her sexuality as well as her femininity and made no apologies for it.

I think it's an inspiration to all of us girls no matter if you are single, married, have children or whatever...you are a woman, embrace it and be fearless!!

Day Sparkle

I told you here and here, I really love the idea of sequins for day. I am a sucker for most anything that sparkles and not having to wait until the sun sets to bring out the glamour is fine with me!

I have had this top for several years and much like the rest of this outfit, it rarely gets worn. Today I needed a little sparkle in my day so I decided to take it for a spin.
The last time these shoes have been worn was when I wore them here.

The best part of this outfit is nothing is over $50! :)

Getting back on track

So the last four days have been a blur. I shot that pilot that I told you about on Friday, which went off without a hitch. I had so much fun, met so many nice people and got to do what I love.
I read a quote somewhere that said "If you love what you do, you'll never work a day in your life."
I think that is so very very true!

I had several meetings over the last few days and I have some big things I am cooking up. I wish I could share with you but I promise as soon as I can you will be the first to know!

I apologize that I was unable to post yesterday. I am not trying to make a habit out of the random missed posts I promise! Life has just been busy!

I actually use both. I layer my lipgloss over my lipstick, especially when going out on the town. Right now because it's summer I usually default to lipgloss for everyday. I have lipgloss A.D.D. I will try anything and use it for awhile and then switch to something else. Right now I have gone back to an oldie but goodie -- MAC Lipglass.

5.) If you could go anywhere for a week long vacation where would you go?

Santorini Island Greece
I am addicted to travel. There is nothing in this world that gives me the high I get when visiting a different country. I still have yet to see Spain, Italy and Greece which are at the top of my list. But since the question was if I could go anywhere for one week where would it be so I would have to say Santorini. I have wanted to go there ever since I layed eyes on this image as a kid. It strikes me as a beautiful fantasy world only in dreams...

When I first saw him on Grey's Anatomy I was completely smitten, but then I got to meet him in person. He is really really sweet and even more beautiful. If you see him, please give him my number. ;)

Ever have one of those days where not only do you feel like crap, but the weather is hot and the last thing you feel like doing is putting in any effort to what you're going to wear?

Well that was pretty much me today. If I had it my way, I would've stayed in my pj's all day with the blankets over my head!

Unfortunately that wasn't an option, so instead I threw on this dress I have had in my closet for about 6 years. I rarely wear it but every time I do I wonder why...

Few things make a girl feel as good as getting her hair done. I told you here about that my visit to Dry Bar and since then I've been back twice (can you say addicted?!?!) Last week, however, I was told about a salon that just opened a dry bar called Kasai and I had to give it a try. Kasai who is the owner, I am told used to work with Federic Fekkai, which is one of my favorites. This salon is full service and while I was there I decided to get a cut as well. I honestly feel like a new woman!

This patio is part of the salon which also serves complimentary Champagne...what better way to start a weekend??

If you follow my blog you know that I am a fan of Mulberry. My Mulberry bag seen here here and here is so big and sturdy I often use it as a carry on. (It even fits my laptop!)
The only problem with Mulberry is it's very steep price tag....

Yesterday Target announced that they have teamed up with Mulberry to bring us a line of handbags!

Yesterday's post I wore a romper from Target, however typically when it comes to handbags, I opt for investment bags, things that are more money but will stand the test of time....
I think though, for this line I will definitely make an exception!!

The line with be introduced October 10, 2010 and will be available to Dedcember 24, 2010....talk about a fall treat!!

Chambray Supernova

I was running errands the other day and I stopped by Target to pick up a few things. As I walked toward the toilet paper aisle this little chambray romper caught my eye. I tried it on and, well, here it is. Sometimes Target has fun little inexpensive finds. I just couldn't resist this (and for $20!)

There are so many ways to play with chambray, but today I decided to give it an edge with my DV shoes and some studded accessories.

Smooth Criminal

I'm kind of loving my straw fedora. I picked it up at a local boutique last week to wear at the pool in Vegas but I have been wearing it to much more than just the pool. It has the ability to take a simple white button down and jeans and make it look a little more put together.

It sort of reminds me of Michael Jackson's Smooth Criminal video....he looked so cool in his white fedora...I kind of feel cool in mine too ;)

Edgy Feet

Vegas Hair

A few weeks ago Cupcakes and Cashmere blogger Emily did a post about a place called Dry Bar which I have to say, is a little slice of heaven! It is a local salon in Los Angeles that specializes in blow outs. There motto is no cuts, no color, just blow outs. The best part? It's only $35!! (wash included!)

In preparation for my Vegas trip (and since I happen to live local) I decided this was a perfect time for me to get one.
Like I mentioned here I never blow dry my hair. But let's face it, you can't blow out your hair as good as someone else.

My hair was such a mess I had to go in with a pony tail!

Well let's just say they did not disappoint. My hair was so soft, shiny and bouncy. I was like a walking shampoo commercial!

And because this salon experience is such a girly treat, I decided to invite my new blogger buddy Bren from Chasing Beauty. My wonderful friend Patti, who always takes all these great pics for my blog, also got her hair done too!

All in all it was a fantastic day with the girls and something different than a mani/pedi. And I had fab hair for Vegas!!

Gone Fishing....or uh...gambling, drinking etc...

Cocktails and the City

Well I am in Vegas and because of this I am the only woman in America who has yet to see the beloved Sequel. I am hoping some of my friends will want to see it a second time so when I return i don't have to go alone :)

Keeping with my Sex in the City themed posts this week and considering it's Friday (and a holiday weekend at that) I found some cocktail recipes I thought sounded interesting and yummy. If you are having a SITC party or going with your g/f's to see the movie here are some you may want to try!

Pear and Elderflower Sangria

Combine:

*Canton Ginger Liqueur
*St. Germain Elderflower Liqueur
*Cointreau

Steep the above ingredients with:

*Fresh Asian pears
*White cranberry juice
*Chilean Savigon Blac (Michael says you could also go with Pinot Grigio instead)

Steep for 3 days minimum. Serve in Bordeaux glass and garnish with fresh Asian pears, blackberries, raspberries and a mint crown.

Rediscovered Cherry Cosmo

2 ounce(s) Smirnoff Black Cherry vodka

1 ounce(s) white cranberry

3/4 ounce(s) Cointreau

1 splash(es) fresh lime juice

Combine all the ingredients in a shaker, and add ice. Shake and strain into a glass. Garnish with fresh or dried cherries.

Oprah's Pomegranate Martini

1 1/2 cups pomegranate juice
2 ounces Absolute Citron vodka or white tequila
1 ounce Cointreau liquor
Cup of ice
Splash of sparkling water (optional)
Squeeze of lemon (optional)

Shake ingredients in a shaker and put in chilled martini glasses.

Raspberry White Chocolate Truffle Martini

1-1/2 oz Van Gogh Raspberry Vodka
1/2 oz White chocolate Godiva
1-1/2 oz White crème de Cocoa
1 oz Raspberry Liqueur
3 Raspberries

Combine liquid ingredients in a shaker and shake over ice. Strain into glass. Garnish with raspberries on a pick.

Tropical Martini

1 1/2 ounces vanilla vodka

1 ounce coconut rum

1/4 oz fresh pineapple juice

Combine vanilla vodka and coconut rum. Add half pineapple juice in shaker strain over ice.

The tutu that started it all...

A SITC outfit dedication wouldn't be complete without the infamous tutu...a skirt only Carrie Bradshaw could pull off during the daylight hours.

I have only worn this skirt out at night and while I was getting looks walking around in broad daylight in it, I have to say I still felt glamorous!

Mine is a bit edgier with the studded detail around the waistline but softening it up with feminine shoes and purse makes it work.

The Dior Shoe ...

For my Second Carrie look I am channeling the outfit that kicked off the first movie with a bang. The Dior Shoe that started the gladiator and the bootie trend had me at hello. Since then I have been obsessed with mixing edgy accessories and feminine pieces.

4 Days of Sex

In honor of the release of our beloved sequel (finally!!) I have decided to do the rest of my posts this week dedicated to Sex and the City.

I am sure SITC means as much to many of you as it does to me. So many times I sought comfort in watching the girls go through similar situations and making it through. How many times have you caught yourself thinking "What would Carrie do?" :)

For my outfits I am using all things I already have in my closet and putting together my own version of some of Carrie's looks...

My first outfit is from the episode Boy, Girl, Boy, Girl when Carrie ends up at a party playing spin the bottle with a group of bi-sexual couples.

My beach bag essentials

What one puts in their beach bag sets the stage for the beach experience. It is important to bring all the necessary items to make the day enjoyable and fun. I decided to show you what are my must haves for the beach, or since I will be in Vegas this week, the pool.

My bag this year is the Victoria Secret Striped Tote that I got as a free gift with purchase over the Christmas Holiday. I love this bag! It has so much room and the best part is it's reversible!

One never wants to be bloated at the beach so I always bring a few light snacks like fruit or these organic protein bars

Of course I stock up on fashion magazines!

and my Summer read which this year is the new Twilight Book!!

I always have my Ipod to tune out others if need be :)

Make up usually melts in the sun but I love Tarte Cheek Stain for lips and cheeks. It's super easy and mess free!

Sunblock is essential but I hate having that greasy feeling. This stuff is great because it absorbs into your skin and you don't feel like you have any on!

It's important to protect my color treated hair with a protectant spray

And a Straw Fedora for post beach messy hair.

A super soft beach towel is a necessity.

And a fold up beach blanket is great for containing the sand and keeping it compact.

Beach Bangle

So this weekend I rode my bike to the beach. I am not sure why but the season's first trip to the sand is like an event. Of course the choice of bikini and sundress is key, but equally important are the choice of accessories. Beach accessories need to be compatible with sand and sun. I chose to wear a simple wooden bangle pulled up onto my forearm.
I think a bracelet or even a stacked few are an easy simple way to add an accessory to your bathing suit style without looking like you are trying to hard. Here are a few I found at shopbop that I think work well.

If you're like me not only do you not always have the time, but perhaps not always the budget for weekly pedicures. I often times have the task of DIY pedi's in between my times to the salon. I have an arsenal of products I like to use and here are some good ones I found at sephora.com...

Also a cool trick I learned is to take hot water in a bowl or basin big enough to fit one of your feet...add several squirts of lotion. I like Lubriderm.

Then add a few tablespoons of Olive Oil.

This mixture makes your feet super soft! I soak each for 5 minutes at a time, scrubbing one while the other soaks...and Voila! Happy Feet!! :)

American Woman

I am having an American Apparel moment. I went in there one day not really looking for anything in particular when I stumbled upon this one shoulder dress. It's made out of sweatshirt material and is pretty much the most comfortable LBD I have ever owned. I could go for a run in this dress! The best part is even though it is made of casual material, it wears like an upscale cocktail dress and hugs in all the right places. I loved it so much I went back and got another one in Raspberry :)

I am off to DC again this weekend to spend QT with my man (who if you haven't figured out, lives there which is why I have been traveling so much!)

Lovely Bren from Chasing Beauty Blog has gifted me with this lovely award. The rules are I have to list 7 things about myself and then nominate a few other bloggers for the award.

1.) I always always always have polished nails. This goes for both fingers and toes. I couldn't imagine leaving the house with naked nails and this includes dead of winter even when wearing boots.

2.)I have this innate need to live near the ocean. The thought of being land locked gives me anxiety. Even if I never go to the beach, just knowing it's there is comforting to me.

3.) I love margaritas. They are pretty much my favorite summer cocktail.

4.) I hate leggings. There. I said it.

5.) I wake up 1.5-2 hours before I have to start my day to have quiet coffee and computer time.

6.) I am extremely independent and I have a difficult time accepting help even when I need it.

7.) I believe in love. Carrie Bradshaw style...Ridiculous, inconvenient, consuming, can't-live-without-each-other love.

Pool Party

Anyone who's been to Vegas knows that what you wear to the pool is equally important as what you wear out to the clubs.

As I mentioned here I am planning to be in Vegas for Memorial Day weekend which is arguably the biggest pool party of the year. So in addition to trying to find a new dress and some new rock star shoes, I am searching for a new Vegas worthy bikini as well.

Personally, I am partial to Victoria's Secret bikini's. You are able to mix and match most styles to fit your body type. A huge pet peeve of mine is when bikini bottoms hug too tight and create the inevitable muffin top. No one wants to see that. The secret to minimizing this is the string bottom which can be tied as loose or as tight as necessary. It's for this reason they are the only style of bottoms I wear....

My New York Minute

Well New York was a whole lot of fun. The weather was scorching hot! But it did go by in a NY Minute. I got to shop and get drinks with may Gay Boyfriend Brionne, who has been living in NYC for the last year and a half acting in off broadway shows (and whom I never get to see.)

We did a lot of looking but due to the unbearable humidity we had many cocktail breaks in between. It didn't make for a productive shopping excursion, but it did make for a whole lotta fun.

I also got to go to great dinners and spend quality time with my straight boyfriend.
It went by too quick and one time square car bomb scare later...I'm home. But not for very long as next weekend I am off again to DC . I know, I know I am becoming quite a little jet setter...and loving every minute of it ;)

A Jacket Day

I apologize for my late post today, however a friend needed to talk last night which ended up going til the wee hours of the morning (and involved 2 bottles of wine!) Needless to say I am exhausted and very far behind on my daily duties...

It was really gray and cold in L.A. yesterday. It's rare that I have to pull out a jacket in almost May, but I did and headed to downtown Manhattan Beach for a mini shopping/coffee excursion.

Hair help Part 2

Happy Monday Everyone! I hope you all had wonderful weekends full of fun and/or rest. I had a little bit of both :)

Now I told you guys here that I got highlights in my hair a few weeks ago. And I told you guys here about my issues adjusting because the bleach dried my hair out so much.
I used Moroccan Oil which was definitely helpful and a great product, but still my hair was just not the same.

I started getting a bit of breakage in the front and those pieces were wiry and dry. I called my hair girl who told me to get a hair mask with protein and moisturizer in it.

I immediately went to the beauty supply and told the sales person what I needed. He promptly handed me some product I had never heard of and sent me on my way. After using the mask twice I noticed it helping but STILL...my hair was not the same!

Then the amazing Bren from Chasing Beauty Blog told me I needed to get the mask that Moroccan Oil makes. She informed me there are two kinds and that I needed the hydrating mask.
WELL....A-M-A-Z-I-N-G!! It's like a miracle! One use and my hair is soft, silky and shiny the way it was pre-bleach. FINALLY!! I have my hair back!

I highly recommend this product ladies...it isn't messing around! ;)

Drum Roll Please...

So I know some of you have been waiting to see the pics of me in my dress from the event I told you about here....well here they are! Thank you all so much for your suggestions! Here's what I ended up doing:

I went with Kim Porter's suggestion of bronze make up...bronze smokey eye with a nude lip. I went with Erika's suggestion of hair over the shoulder, but I went with it down rather than in a pony tail. I know most of you said go with my hair up, however I saw this picture of Kourtney Kardashian wearing her hair over her shoulder and I really liked it.
To keep the look from being too bridal I went with Kimmy D's suggestion to add a pop of color with my jewelry by adding teal color stones.
The majority of you agreed to gold accessories which is what I went with considering it was a conservative and classy event.

The ball was so much fun and it really did feel like prom...we even had to take our picture in front of a faux background...don't laugh! ;)

My b/f was reading my blog the other day and decided I need a new bag because he was sick of seeing this one!! He also said he knows if he's sick of seeing it then you girls must be too!! Skin Fix

Lately I have been doing quite a bit of traveling. Every time I do no matter how much I prepare the time I am up in the air does a number on me. My skin especially looks gaunt and I look beat up!
One trick I started doing is spraying MAC Fix+ Charged water on my face during and after the flight. I also use it the next day before putting on my make up. It's really amazing how much it helps add the moisture back into my skin.
As for the other torturous side effects of flying...well I am still working on those ;)

Hot Mess

Last week I was so busy running around doing last minute things for my weekend in St. Louis. I threw on this outfit and now that I look at it, I really should have pulled out the iron. I look like a hot mess! Sometimes though, it happens ;0) We can't be perfect all the time!!

Oh and BTW that black thing on my wrist is a hair elastic. I wish I took it off for the pics but the truth is with this hair I have one on my wrist almost all the time.

I had a great time on my trip. I will post some pics soon!

Beauty of the Ball

The formal gala/ball event I told you guys about is tomorrow and who knew how much effort goes into preparing for these things???

There's the gown, which I showed you here and then the shoes, bag, jewelry, hair and make up...everything has to be right!
Well I have succeeded in getting everything I needed and I want to thank you for all your input!!
I asked you guys your thoughts and I have decided to go with Kim Porter from Makeup by Kim Porter's suggestion of going bronze goddess for my makeup.

As for hair and accessories you will have to stay tuned for pics from the event to see how it all turned out! ;)

Nars Makeup Primer: This stuff is truly amazing. Not only will this keep your makeup in place it creates a flawless canvas!

Urban Decay Eyeshadow Primer Potion - this stuff will help my eyeshadow stay shimmery all night long!

Cheap and Chic

I got this dress several years ago from Target. It was probably $20. I know it is slightly worn, but it is really so comfortable! It's a go to dress that I will throw on if I am having a fat day or just want to look put together without trying too hard. One of the fun things about fashion is being able to mix a $20 dress with a $900 bag and making it work! :)

Hair Help

So I told you guys last week here that I got some highlights in my hair...well since my hair is so dark, my favorite hair girl had to use (gulp) bleach to lighten the strands before depositing the color. Anyone who's every put bleach on their hair knows (which I obviously do now) it dries out your hair. So some of the strands of highlighted hair were much drier than the rest.

I have been hearing so many things about Moroccan Oil but I knew now was the time to break down and get some....and it didn't disappoint!!

My hair looks shiny, and smooth and not dry at all. This stuff is definitely worth getting! L-O-V-E!!

And while we are on the subject, here are a few other hair products I swear by and can not live without:

Fekkai Straight Away Straightening balm

I put this in my hair damp and just let my hair hair dry. I never ever use a blow dryer.

Fekkai Coiff Perfecteur Anti-Frizz Silkening Creme

This stuff is great for taming my frizz!!
Big Sexy Hair Dry Shampoo

I don't wash my hair everyday but this stuff is great for sopping up the oil from working out or running my fingers through it. It's a lifesaver!!

Big Black Horse and a Cherry Tree

This tree reminds me of the cherry blossom trees in D.C. that I have been lucky enough to see in my travels lately. They actually snow flower petals and they are so beautiful.
I was also lucky enough in my travels lately to be gifted these fab Citizens skinny jeans from an amazing friend :) They are the most comfortable jeans I think I have ever worn. They stick to your skin like a glove, yet they are light and thin. They are like second skin!

On a whole other note, my favorite hair girl in the world gifted me highlights in my hair the other day. I have never been brave enough to do such a thing....I am always a dark haired girl, however she did just a hint of chocolate highlights and I think it's kind of fun. These pics are a little bright but in the days to come let me know what you think! :)

Today I had a lunch meeting crammed dead smack in the middle an already hectic day. In desperate need for a haircut, I was having the worst hair day ever so I threw on red lipstick and my Louboutin's which never fail to make me feel great. :)

Well the warm weather is here for most of us and that means we need to slather on scrubs, soften up dry winter skin and assess our beauty routines! There are a few things we need to do to get ready to pull out that warm weather wardrobe and having a simplified beauty routine is key! Here are a few things I think are helpful:

1.) Tinted Moisturizer

Prom Circa 2010

Ok my little fashion blogger friends, I have an assignment for you. I have been invited to a formal gala/ball event. Yesterday I found my dress at BCBG and now it is time to accessorize. I am having a difficult time deciding on whether or not to go with black shoes/clutch or gold. I tried it on with both and both look great. I need a second opinion! I am doing shoe/clutch shopping this weekend so if you have something in mind, please share!

I love mixing feminine dress with edgy accessories. It can take an outfit from Alice in Wonderland to The Runaways in 2 seconds flat. Inspired by the movies right now I decided to take this soft black cotton bubble sundress and mix it with metal accessories and some gladiators. And of course I threw in a little attitude ;)
